Ballet Emergency Bag

Just a quick post today.

Last night I stumbled upon the idea of a “Ballet Emergency Bag.” I got the idea from Musings about Dance, a blog by a Philly dancer and choreographer. You should check out her awesome post here about the emergency bag her husband made her. While I don’t really have an emergency bag, I certainly stuff certain things into my ballet bag, such as KT Tape, ice packs, and a spare pair of legwarmers. Her post has inspired me to put one together rather than just stuffing random items into my bag when I think I might need them.

What would be in your ballet emergency bag?

  1. I have a ballet emergency type of bag. It includes: extra hair bands, band aids, mole skin, athletic type tape, extra elastic, sew kit, cough drops, various spare toe pads, lambs wool, bobby pins, safety pins, and spare toe jelly things. I have a huge dance bag, which my mom made me, and I carry everything in it! I usually have a spare sweater/sweatshirt and extra leg warmers and usually a spare pair of ballet shoes. Just in case! :)

    • Me too! I have a mini daily version in my work purse with bobby pins, aspirin, Pepcid, hair bands, band aids, flossers, eye drops, lip balm. I grab that and toss is it my ballet bag and then keep medical tape, socks, mace (scary walk to class), extra ballet shoes and leg warmers in there.

  2. I have always had several emergency bags in ballet bag. I use various sizes of makeup bags for these depending on the items. And by having several it is easy to find things. One has extra bobby pins, hair ties, spin pins and a comb. I have a small med one that has advil, voltaren gel, arnica pellets and arnica lotion. The largest one has a small bottle of hairspray, small baby powder, small lotion, lip smacker, very small bottle of perfume, mascara and a multiuse lipstick (for cheeks and lips). One has a sew kit, therabands, various sizes of balls, an energy bar and small bag of nuts. Then of course always an extra pair of tights, two sizes of leg warmers, ballet skirt, sweater wrap and canvas and leather flats. I also have a small billfold that I use for just dance with all my punch cards (I go to four different studios), light rail pass and a small amount of cash. I hate having to carry a purse with my dance bag…it is one more thing to keep track of! I am looking forward to the day (hopefully in the next year) when I can add a bag for pointe shoe supplies and first aid items. In a weird way I am looking forward to the ‘war wounds’ of pointe!

  3. I have a bag full of ‘stuff’ in my dance bag – things like elastoplast, tape, toe padding (I don’t do pointe but I have a pesky lump on my big toe), hair pins, bun nets, hair brush, support bandages, tennis ball, theraband, sewing kit, deodrant, face wipes, hair slides and probably a whole load of pointless things that just get chucked in… Plus another bag with my kit in, one for shoes and one to put dirty laundry in (it’s almost like organisation, ‘cept I never have spares of kit so totally doomed if I get a ladder in my tights). Weirdest day is the one I have time to nip home between work and class and just rock up with my deodrant, shorts and legwarmers because I’ve had time to change into everything else and do my hair/pad my toes etc in readiness.
