Review(s):

Dance West is a great place for true beginners to start dancing. They offer a very basic intro class for 18+ and the instructor, Monique, is great at teaching new adults. She’s patient and encouraging. And there are mixed adult and student ballet classes from intro to pointe for those who want to go that far. The atmosphere is dedicated, helpful, and fun. All you need are ballet flats and comfortable clothes to begin. 🙂

Reviews:

Metropolitan Dance company moved into its new studio space this month (June 2013) and although there is still some dust and a few kinks need to be worked out, this place shows promise of being a 10-star studio once everything gets settled.

Conveniently located in Houston’s Midtown, the new facility includes four spacious studios with excellent lighting and drop floors that are friendly to a variety of shoes. There are two ample waiting areas for hanging out before and after class, and the large restrooms even have shower facilities.

This is a big improvement over their previous location, which was unique and quirky, but outdated and not up to handling the volume of students, which increases with each passing year. Space in the children’s classes is highly coveted, and promising students have a pipeline into the Met Too Youth Company. Adult classes include a cohort-based intro classes for beginners, and drop-in classes in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, and hip-hop. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, with all ages, backgrounds and dance goals welcome.

Anyone who loves to dance can find their niche at the Houston Met!

Beverly is an awesome teacher if you are new to ballet. She’s encouraging and offers several classes for all levels of beginners, however, you will always feel welcome in her classes no matter what your level is. I highly recommend her for those who have never taken ballet.

Carla is friendly, fun, and exceptionally intuitive to her students’ needs. She gives wonderful explanations and corrections that explain why moves/postures are the way they are, and why they need to be done a certain way to build strength or avoid injury. She also uses fun, non traditional music in the studio that brings a fresh beat to ballet!

This isn’t a fancy high-tech place, but the teachers are in it to win it. Natalie Test especially has the desire to encourage beginners to improve. Top notch instructors and classes for all levels of adult students.
