Between walking all over center city Thursday evening and the impending rain–HQ and I cancelled our plans to go to ballet. Plus, I felt horrible–I had been having pretty bad headaches all day, so it made sense to relax and take it easy.
On Friday I was having a series of bad migraines too–probably as a result of the start of allergy season. But this time, I decided to go to class anyway in hopes the headache would go away. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
That wasn’t my only problem–I rushed out of the house without realizing I failed to put shorts on over my leotard–so I ended up wearing my baggy yoga pants over my tights and leg warmers, which was not fun. I ended up having to stop and re-roll them up to my knees because otherwise they would’ve been too baggy and long (I’m only 5’2″, so all my pants are too long). I know I should’ve just sucked it up and just worn my leotard, but I’m not such a big fan of my legs right now. The tights I was wearing were also getting fairly ripped.
I also had to deal with breaking in my new leather slippers, which took some getting used to.
Fortunately, my brain didn’t have to handle trying to lead the barre and perfectly remembering the combinations since there were a fair amount of people in class. My head was pounding throughout most of the class, although I managed to handle most of the barre exercises, since they were pretty similar to what we had been working on for a while.
Center work was a different story. By that point, I was fairly tired, and I should’ve just stayed at home and not come to class. I was sloppy and tired, and really just wanted to go home with my headache. I was happy to get out of there and have an extremely slow and painful walk home. It was not my worst class, but it was far from my best.
I’m trying my hardest not to get discouraged though. I had a really great class last Friday, and I know we all have our off days. I’m looking forward to next week’s classes when I’m hopefully migraine-free.
Do you skip classes when you’re feel a little bit under the weather or do you tough them out? How do you focus on getting past a bad class?
