Barre: A real food bar review and giveaway

UPDATE: I had originally posted as this ending December 13th at 11:59 pm. Since I said in other posts it went until Friday, feel free to enter until December 14th at 11:59 PM EST.

I’m so excited to offer my first giveaway on Adult Ballerina Project. When I first contacted Julia to set up the interview she offered to send me some barres, but I ordered some of my own as well. I’ll be giving away one of each flavor to one lucky follower picked at random.

My favorite flavor, pirouette cinnamon pecan. From realfoodbarre.com.

If you’re like me, you’re adult ballet classes fall around 6 or 7 pm. I often struggle with whether I should eat before I go to class (and risk feeling bloated and sick during class) or not eat and end up starving midway through class and be checking the clock every five minutes hoping class will be over soon so I can eat.

I was super excited to try each flavor of the barres (Black Swan Chocolate Berry, Ballerina Spirulina, and Pirouette Cinnamon Pecan).

First up was Black Swan Chocolate Berry before my Saturday morning ballet class. I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of cherry, so it just didn’t work for me. I struggled to eat all of it. I wasn’t a huge fan of how chewy it was, and how the dates in it reminded me of fruitcake, which I hate. I was disappointed and worried I was going to hate all three flavors.

Enter Pirouette Cinnamon Pecan. This time I was short on time before my Monday ballet class (which is at 6, meaning I have to leave around 5:15–definitely no time for dinner). I ate a tub of yogurt, so I had something in my stomach if I disliked this flavor as well. I was wrong. I gobbled down this barre quickly because the cinnamon flavor made it wonderful while the pecans were there but not super noticeable (I’m not a huge fan of nuts). The cinnamon did a good job at masking the dates I hated tasting in the Black Swan Chocolate Berry. And the best part is? It helped sustain me throughout class and I was barely even hungry before I got home at 7:45.

Lastly, I tried the Ballerina Spirulina before my Tuesday night class (at 7:30, but I have to leave at 6:45), again with a container of yogurt. When I first opened it, I was shocked it green! I quickly googled to find out that spirulina is a microalga dietary supplement. I liked this bar and it tasted just a bit sweet without tasting too much like dates. I was hungry by the time I was home at 10, but it definitely helped fill me up before class.

Overall, my favorite was definitely the Pirouette Cinnamon Pecan and I plan on checking out my local Whole Foods ASAP hoping to pick up some more.

Review disclaimer: I purchased and paid for one of each flavor of the barres and I was sent another set for free. All opinions are my own.

And now for the giveaway! I’ll be mailing one lucky winner a sample of each barre to try.
