Busy + Stressed = No Posts, But I’m Here, I Promise

Work kind of got the best of me last week– I had a highly stressful, but productive week (just not on ABP). I spent my weekend being a teaching assistant at Girl Develop It Philly‘s WordPress class and felt way out of my league at times, partially due to the fact that I hadn’t had a chance to review any of the materials for the class ahead of time. In the end, though, it was a great feeling to help the people that I could learn more about WordPress.

I did  get the chance to get excited about all the cool improvements I can make to Adult Ballerina Project to make it looker better AND have more functionality–especially the studio guide.

I’ll also have my first (of many, hopefully) post going up on Geekadelphia this week (which I’ll be sure to share) and a ballet profile coming up on here on Friday.

Unfortunately, I haven’t made it to a ballet class in what feels like ages.

My legs have felt pretty crappy lately–I’m guessing due to them not getting a proper chance to heal and rest due to all that stress–but I’m hoping Thursday’s class will be alright. Fingers crossed (and stress-reducing tips appreciated).

P.S. My email was sending out spam Sunday night/Monday morning EST, so sorry if you got any of it–DON’T CLICK ON THE LINKS. It shouldn’t happen again (the issue should be resolved)–but please let me know ASAP if you get another. I’m so sorry it happened.

Weekend Recap: #RescueRun5k and WordPress Class

It’s been a ridiculously busy weekend. I took another WordPress class through the wonderful GirlDevelopIt Philly. I always learn so much through their classes and they’re always super helpful. I’ve taken a WordPress 101 class, an HTML/CSS intro class, and now a WordPress theme class.

As a result of this class, I’ll be working on giving Adult Ballerina Project a major overhaul as I practice my new skills. I’ll keep you updated about how that is going and I’m very excited to get into web development with WordPress since it’s something I love.

I also spent my Sunday morning running another 5k. As I’ve mentioned, I haven’t been keeping up so much with running, so I was kind of nervous and  feeling unready for this one. Since I had the class, I knew it was going to be a long day and I’d have a tight schedule.

HQ and I woke up early around 7:15–although later than I wanted since he had worked on a class project until late Saturday night so I pushed our alarm a bit later. We ate a quick bagel and grabbed our running gear and headed down to the Navy Yard in Philly.

Getting there was a little confusing–the Navy Yard only really has one address despite it being a huge complex and walking into it from the subway stop was a little confusing, especially given construction, but we were there in plenty of time for the 10 am start. Unfortunately, I wanted to avoid petting any puppies before the race because of my allergies.

There were a lot of people but the race started on time, and the course was really flat. I had a really good first mile and a half, until we got to the turn around point. I was expecting there to be a water stop, and unfortunately, there wasn’t any, and the second half of my race was much slower. Even though we took a couple of walk breaks, I still beat my last 5k race time by about 2 and a half minutes, which isn’t bad considering I didn’t get much training in the month of August and missed a lot of runs in September due to sickness allergies.

Here’s to hoping our next one in three weeks (for my college’s homecoming) goes better!

What have you achieved lately?

We’ve Moved!

If you’re reading this, then my process has been successful! I’m still in the process of figuring stuff out, but for now, the majority of posts and other resources on this blog have been moved over to WordPress.org. We’re still accessible at AdultBallerinaProject.com.

I’m still in the process of getting followers moved over from WordPress.com, but that should happen shortly and everyone who was receiving an e-mail update should receive one with the upcoming posts, but this one might not make it.

If you were subscribed to my posts via WordPress’s reader, my posts should still show up in your reader as an RSS feed. I’ll be testing this out shortly and crossing my fingers that it works.

I’ll have another way of subscribing now too: feel free to subscribe via MailChimp, where I’ll send out a weekly newsletter with the news and posts from this week.

The good/awesome news is, I’ll be at an awesome 2 day workshop this week with Girl Develop It Philly to learn the ins and outs of WordPress so that I can make this blog even more awesome.

2012 in review: Thank-you to everyone whose been reading!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 6,600 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 11 years to get that many views.

Click here to see the complete report.

I’ll have a post up tomorrow with some of my favorite posts from this year.
